Tomb Raider the Angel of Darkness The Basement of Doom

(NOTE: This area is optional, except near the end of the level, where you must go through the basement to get to the mechanism that allows you to reach the exit.  I recommend avoiding it until then.  If you follow the walkthrough you can still get all the pick-ups.  The items in this area are included in the total for the Hall of Seasons.  At some point, I may make a map, but for now, I'm just giving a description and tips.)

You enter this area by falling through one of the trapdoors from the main room of the Hall of Seasons.  (See the main walkthrough for details.) When you fall through, you find yourself on a small landing with a ramp leading down to the basement.  Once you slide down, you can't get back up except via the elevator.

This room is basically a large ring lined with lava pits and diabolical traps.  After sliding into the room, you can go left or right, taking either the shortest route to the elevator up/stairs down, the route with the most pick-ups, or the route with the easier traps.

This walkthrough below tells how to navigate the room from the Earth entrance (where you come in if you follow the main walkthrough) to the door with the X-shaped lock.  Then back to the elevator to return to the floor above.  If you enter through a passage other than Earth, find it in the list below.  Then, if you go right, moving clockwise around the room, follow the walkthrough in order.  If you go left, follow the walkthrough in reverse.

Earth passage: From above, fall through one of the trapdoors.  Pick up a Viper clip on the landing.  Slide down the ramp to the circular trap room.  Pick up V-Packer shells in the passage below.  Go left toward the stairs down.  (Or, if you haven't followed the walkthrough and that door isn't unlocked yet, go right and follow this walkthrough in reverse to get to the elevator.)

Lava pit: Running jump across.  If you're following the hall counterclockwise, you'll also have to deal with the spiky roller here.  Take a running jump to clear the pit on the right side.  Then either duck near the wall to avoid the roller or run quickly into the earth passage.

Lava pit with walkway and horizontal spikes: Walk carefully past the spikes.  If you move in an S-shaped path, you can avoid being skewered.

Fire passage: From above, fall through one of the trapdoors.  Slide down the ramp to the circular trap room.  Nothing on the landing; Viper clip in the passage below.  (Go right to the elevator.)

Two narrow lava pits: Use standing jumps to clear them.

Door with X-shaped lock: This is where you enter after you've found the four element crystals and used them to unlock the door.  The stairs lead down to the lower level.  Follow the main walkthrough from here.  If you are returning to this room after finishing your business down below, turn right and make your way past the traps to the elevator.

Lava pit: Running jump across.  If you're following the hall clockwise, you'll also have to deal with the spiky roller here (see below).  Take a running jump to clear the pit on the left side.  Then duck near the wall to avoid the roller.

Air passage: From above, fall through one of the trapdoors.  Slide down the ramp to the circular trap room.  Nothing on the landing; large medipak in the passage below.  (Go left to the elevator.)

Spiky roller: Stay out of the way of the roller when it starts moving.  If it's coming toward you, get to either wall and duck to avoid the spike.

Lava pool: Standing jump across.  If you're following the hall clockwise, be careful not to run on into the pounding block.

Pounding block: Wait for the block to pound down, then start running.  As it's rising up you should be able to run under it before it pounds again.  If you're following the passage counterclockwise, keep running and jump to clear the next lava pool (above).

Claw-shaped blades: Run through when the blades retract.

Star-shaped blades: these blades open up like flowers, slicing as Lara passes by.  Walk past carefully, staying as far from each blade as you can.

Water passage: From above, fall through one of the trapdoors.  Slide down the ramp to the circular trap room.  Nothing on the landing or in the passage.  (Go left to the elevator.)

Claw-shaped blades: Run through when the blades retract.

Elevator: Enter and pull the chain.  When the elevator stops, turn around to find bandages and V-Packer shells in a small alcove.  Pull the chain again to get to the top.  The gates open automatically as you approach, and you end up back in the main room.

Lava pit with walkway and pinwheel-style blade: Hang from the edge of the walkway above the lava and traverse along below the blade.  Pull up on the other side.

Lava pit: Running jump across.

Spiky roller: Stay out of the way of the roller when it starts moving.  If it's coming toward you, get to either wall and duck to avoid the spike.

If you're following the hall clockwise, go to the top of the list and continue from the Water passage.
